A hockey advisor works directly with a player and their family to navigate the path to junior and collegiate hockey. That includes evaluating where the athlete currently stands, identifying the right leagues and programs for their development, creating exposure opportunities with coaches and scouts, and staying actively involved through every step of the recruiting journey.
At APX Advisors, that also includes player assessments, video analytics, development planning, academic guidance, and access to our partner network for nutrition and injury recovery. A good advisor is not just a contact list. They are a full support system built around the athlete.

Yes. APX Advisors works with players and families from across the country. Our advisors are based in multiple regions including Minnesota, Nebraska and the Central Plains, and Western US and Canada. Our networks and relationships span leagues and programs nationally and internationally.
Geography does not limit what we can do for your athlete.

A hockey agent is licensed to negotiate professional contracts on behalf of a player. They operate under the rules of the NHL Players Association and typically get involved once an athlete is approaching the professional level.
A hockey advisor works with players earlier in their career, during the junior and collegiate recruiting process, to make sure they are developed, positioned, and placed correctly before the professional conversation ever begins. APX Advisors operates at that level. We focus on getting athletes into the right junior leagues and college programs where they can develop and perform.
-
Not every athlete does, and we will tell you that directly if it applies to your situation. A hockey advisor adds the most value when an athlete is serious about pursuing junior or collegiate hockey and needs help navigating exposure, placement, and development in a competitive and crowded recruiting landscape.
If your athlete has the talent and the drive but lacks the visibility, the right connections, or a clear plan for what comes next, that is exactly where APX Advisors comes in. If we do not think the timing is right for your athlete, we will tell you that too. We have turned families away when it was the honest answer. We would rather give you the truth than receive your investment.

Every athlete we work with starts with a full evaluation. We look at game film and use video analytics to assess skills, hockey sense, compete level, and areas that need development. We also evaluate the athlete as a person, their work ethic, their coachability, and their character, because coaches at the next level are asking both questions.
From there we build a personalized development plan. Not a template. A plan built specifically for that player based on where they are today and where they are trying to go.
-
Every coach and scout has their own priorities, but a few things are consistent across the board. Compete level and battle in pockets. Hockey sense and decision making at speed. Skating and athleticism. Character and coachability. And increasingly, film. Coaches are evaluating players on video before they ever see them in person.
Beyond the on-ice evaluation, coaches want to know who the athlete is as a person and as a teammate. A player who performs and is easy to coach is always going to get more opportunities than one who produces but creates problems. APX Advisors prepares athletes for both sides of that evaluation.

These are four of the most common junior hockey leagues our athletes play in, and they serve different purposes depending on the athlete.
The USHL (United States Hockey League) is the top Tier I junior league in the United States and the most direct pipeline to Division I college hockey. Competition is elite and roster spots are limited.
The NAHL (North American Hockey League) is a Tier II league with a strong track record of placing players into the USHL and Division I programs. Many athletes use the NAHL as a development step before moving up.
The WHL (Western Hockey League) is one of the three major junior leagues in the CHL and is one of the most prestigious junior hockey leagues in North America. WHL players are typically on a path toward professional hockey, though many also pursue college hockey through specific eligibility rules.
The NCDC (National Collegiate Development Conference) is a Tier III junior league that focuses specifically on placing athletes in NCAA college programs at all levels.
The right league depends entirely on the individual athlete. APX Advisors does not funnel every player into the same league. We evaluate each athlete and find the environment where they will develop best and have the clearest path forward.

We tell you. Directly and respectfully.
This is one of the things that separates APX Advisors from a lot of what exists in this space. We have sat across the table from families who were ready to pay for our services and told them the timing was not right for their athlete. That is not a conversation we enjoy having, but it is the right one to have. Our reputation is built on honest assessments, not on collecting fees from families whose athletes are not in a position to benefit.
If the answer is not yet, we will tell you what needs to change and what the path forward looks like. We would rather be honest now and have you come back when the time is right than take your money and underdeliver.

The most common path for a Division I bound hockey player runs through Tier I or Tier II junior hockey first. Most D1 programs want to see athletes compete at the junior level before making a scholarship offer. The junior years are where players develop physically, compete at a higher level, and build the film and stats that college coaches evaluate.
From there, exposure is everything. Getting in front of the right coaches at the right tournaments and camps, having a strong player profile, and having someone actively advocating for your athlete with college staffs makes a significant difference in where and when an offer comes.
APX Advisors manages the full process. Development plan, league placement, exposure strategy, college outreach, and ongoing support through commitment day. Every path looks different depending on the athlete, the timeline, and the programs involved. That is exactly how we approach it.
-
The first step is completing our prospect form. It gives our advisors the information they need to understand your athlete's background, current level, and goals before we sit down together.
From there, we schedule a conversation with the player and the family. We believe in getting everyone at the table from the start. After that meeting, we will give you an honest assessment of where your athlete stands and what working with APX Advisors would look like for them specifically.
