Frequently Asked Questions
-
APX Edge is a hockey skating development program built around control, efficiency, explosiveness, and sustainable speed.
Through four progressive levels, Build, Develop, Perform, and Elite, athletes develop the skating mechanics needed to move faster, sharper, and more efficiently at game pace.
-
APX Edge is designed for hockey players at every stage of skating development.
From younger athletes building foundational mechanics to advanced players refining explosive, game-speed movement, each skater is placed at the level that matches their current ability.
-
No.
Every athlete is assessed and placed at the level that best matches their current skating ability. A developing skater and an advanced player need different training, and APX Edge is designed to meet both where they are.
The objective is not to start everyone in the same place. It is to start every athlete in the right place.
-
Figure skating places an extraordinary emphasis on edge control, balance, body positioning, blade awareness, and technical efficiency.
APX Edge Director of Skating Development Sadie Gibbs completed the highest-level U.S. Figure Skating proficiency tests in both Senior Moves in the Field and Senior Free Skate.
She applies that technical expertise directly to hockey movements such as explosive starts, tight turns, transitions, escapes, lateral mobility, and changes of pace.
This is not figure skating for hockey players. It is elite skating expertise applied directly to the game.

APX Edge goes beyond skating harder or simply skating faster.
The program develops how an athlete uses their edges, body position, weight transfer, stride mechanics, and power to create efficient speed and control.
Combined with intentionally small training groups, athletes receive detailed coaching and technical feedback designed to improve how they actually move on the ice.
-
APX Edge sessions are intentionally limited to approximately 6 to 10 skaters.
Small groups allow for more individual attention, more technical correction, and more quality repetitions.
More touches. More feedback. More development.
-
BUILD Establish control through body awareness, balance, edge awareness, stride mechanics, and starts and stops.
DEVELOP Turn control into power through advanced edge work, stride development, acceleration, turning mechanics, and weight transfer.
PERFORM Turn power into speed through explosiveness, first-step quickness, high-speed edge control, transitions, and direction changes.
ELITE Apply the complete skating system at game speed through crossover acceleration, changes of pace, tight-space skating, edge control under pressure, and video analysis.
Every level has a defined purpose and a clear path forward.

Skating affects nearly everything a player does on the ice.
Better skating creates more separation, better positioning, quicker recoveries, greater control in tight spaces, and more time to make plays.
Efficient skaters also generate power with less wasted energy, allowing their speed and technique to hold up deeper into shifts and later in games.

Registration information and upcoming APX Edge sessions will be available through APX Hockey.
