Why choose APX? From those in the our High School Tier to those in our Selects Tier, APX has a curriculum that will develop far more than just your skills on the ice. Our mission is to develop the athlete, the player and the person as a whole. The entire team at APX is invested in every athlete’s overall development through a unique combination of skill development, strength, conditioning and leadership training.
The APX girls program is led by former Olympic gold medalist Karyn Bye. Bye has been through almost every scenario in hockey, from playing at the high school level back in her home state of Wisconsin to leading her collegiate squad at the University of New Hampshire to two ECAC championships. She went on to win both gold and silver Olympic medals and was eventually inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2014. She now wants to help you achieve greatness at APX Hockey.
“This is a program where you can come and get an hour of individual skill work, lots of repetition, along with some small area games, followed up by an hour in the weight room. In two hours, you can get a great workout in and it focuses a lot on individual skill but also working on shooting, stick-handling, passing and also three-on-three and small area games to work on gameplay,” said Bye about what a typical training session will look like within the APX program.
“I guarantee you that if you come in at the start here in April and put the effort in and push yourself to give 110% that there’s no question in my mind that you will see some big improvements,” she added. “I expect these girls to work hard but we will find time for some fun too. We do competitive games and like to make it fun where it’s not all constant work and too much of a grind and throw some fun in there too.”
There are currently two groups of girls programs at APX: the High School Tier and the High School Selects Tier. Typically, the high school tier is generally for ninth and tenth grade-level skaters while the selects tier is for older, more advanced skaters but any age can make it into the selects tier if they are dedicated, skilled, and competitive enough to put in the work to train with that group. Athletes are placed into the group that they will find the most success with.
In the State of Hockey, training programs are everywhere — facilities, camps, personal trainers, skating coaches. We offer those too. But that’s not what defines APX Hockey. Our success doesn’t come from what we teach; it’s about how we communicate with our athletes. Our culture sets us apart from everyone else.
At APX, we don’t rely on punishment or fear-based coaching. We reject negativity. Instead, we believe in the power of positive reinforcement and results-driven motivation. Mistakes are opportunities, not setbacks. Our athletes thrive because they embrace the challenge, fueled by encouragement and a clear path forward. Every workout, every ice session is demanding, ensuring our players stay passionate and hungry for more.
We take pride in who we bring into our culture. Through our scouting and admissions process, we hand-pick athletes who not only have the physical skills but embody the character and drive that align with our mission. Being a part of APX isn’t just about individual growth — it’s about committing to something bigger than yourself. Our players hold each other accountable and push each other to be better, creating an environment where personal success and team camaraderie go hand in hand.
To be a ‘South-Sider’ isn’t just about advancing your own game; it’s about committing to a culture of excellence. Here, every moment counts. We don’t wait for opportunities — we seize them. And that’s what makes APX Hockey more than just another training program. It’s a movement.
Hear from a few of our APX Athletes about why they love training with our program:
TAYLOR RISCH, SOPH., F, FarMINGTON
“I love being part of APX Hockey because it challenges me to compete at a high level every time I step on the ice,” said Risch. “The coaching and pace of training have helped me improve my skills, confidence, and hockey IQ. Since joining APX, I’ve become a stronger, and more consistent player in game-like situations. The environment has truly helped elevate my game.”
Risch is having an incredibly successful season as a sophomore at Farmington. The forward currently has 37 points in just 26 games played for the Tigers, which is the second most on the entire team. APX is proud to have many members of the Farmington girls team train with us in the offseason and can’t wait to cheer them all on at the 2026 Class AA state hockey tournament!
SENNA HOFMANN, Junior, D, LAKEVILLE SOUTH
Junior Senna Hofmann is in her fourth year up on varsity for the Cougars and led the entire team in scoring in 2025-26. She is an offensive-defender who posted 11 goals (the most on the entire roster) and 10 assists through 27 games for Lakeville South this season.
“I love the APX training program because I get to play with my friends from other schools while pushing myself to get better. The environment is competitive but fun and it really helps me focus on the little details of the game that matter most in hockey. Training at APX motivates me to improve every time I step on the ice,” Hofmann said. “The program has improved my game because we work on key details like shooting and stick skills, which have made me more confident and effective during games.”
CARLY JACOBSON, FR., D, CRETIN-DERHAM HALL
“APX has one of the best support systems for hockey players,” said Jacobson. “They also have an amazing community of coaches and players! APX has helped me improve on my strength, defensive skills, and with becoming a good person/teammate!
Jacobson is in her second season of varsity action in 2025-26 despite being just 15-years-old! It’s extremely difficult to make a varsity roster at this age and she has handled the challenge very well, becoming a regular in the Cretin-Derham Hall lineup and posting four assists through 26 games played this year.
