APX Hockey has a proven track record of developing goaltenders at every level. From those in the youngest division to netminders on professional contracts, APX has a curriculum that will develop far more than just your skills on the ice.

Our mission is to develop the athlete, the player and the person as a whole. The entire team at APX is invested in every athlete’s overall development through a unique combination of skill development, strength, conditioning and leadership training.

“We feel like we have a holistic approach to helping develop and build goaltenders, so for us that means the four key pillars, and that's the technical, the tactical, the physical and the mental,” said APX Director of Goaltending Drew Fielding.

“We feel like where we differentiate ourselves is that we put a really big emphasis on the tactical and the mental part of it. Goalie is one of the most individualized positions within the confines of a team sport, so it's really important that our goalies understand the mental demands to the position. As the game continues to progress, especially from the player side we see it every day with how fast and lateral the game has become, we have to be better decision makers on the ice as well, which lends into the tactical perspective,” he added.

Fielding has been a part of the APX family since 2018 after the conclusion of his own goaltending career. He says that it has been an incredibly rewarding experience working with young netminders from all levels of the sport and seeing them achieve their goals - whether that’s earning a spot on a Division I roster or playing in their first varsity high school hockey game.

“If it weren’t for the help of APX over the years and even now, I wouldn’t be in the position I’m in now as a Division I athlete,” says APX Athlete and Instructor Carsen Musser, who is currently competing at the Division I level for the University of St. Thomas. The Fairmont, Minnesota, native competed at the National Team Development Program before eventually being selected in the 2023 NHL Draft by the Arizona Coyotes (now the Utah Mammoth).

“My favorite thing about the APX family is how much they care for each other and their athletes that they work with. They strive to create a professional culture where they not only develop great athletes, but also great individuals off the ice too. All of the knowledge that they possess and their experiences of playing have helped me to continuously grow each day since I started there, both physically and mentally,” he added.

A general on-ice session for APX goaltenders features plenty of goalie specific training focused on our development curriculum, our staff addressing the needs of each specific athlete, and integrating with regular skaters/players out on the ice as well. There is typically a ‘Theme of the Week’ that both players and netminders will work on together, such as ‘Tips and Screens’ being one example, this means that our goaltenders get legitimate experience on the ice with real players and game scenarios that they’ll have to face on the ice in the future.

“APX has played a huge role in my development over the years, especially when it comes to consistency, confidence, and understanding the game at a higher level,” says Tomas Anderson. The 21-year-old from Stillwater was named the NAHL League MVP in 2025 for the Robertson Cup winning Bismarck Bobcats and he is now currently playing Division I hockey at Niagara University.

“What really separates APX is the culture, it genuinely feels like a family, and the staff truly care about each goalie’s long term growth - not just results in the moment. The attention to detail and individualized feedback have helped me build habits I rely on every day, both on and off the ice,” Anderson added.

APX still has select spots open in its Invite program for 2026 and there are still spots available at our MAP South program as well. Make sure to apply as soon as possible to become a part of our family of elite goaltenders today.

“I have always loved at APX how the staff and players feel like a family and everyone is so knowledgeable. It makes showing up to the rink every day a blast, whether I am there to train or coach,” says APX Athlete and Instructor Henry Welsch. The Lakeville native played college hockey at UMass-Lowell and is currently on a professional contract in the ECHL with the Adirondack Thunder. “Being able to be around people with a lot of experience has helped me grow as a player immensely and I would not be where I am today without APX.”

APX Invite is designed to develop and refine technique in a competitive and elite training environment. APX Hockey’s belief is that every goalie has their own style of play that can be extremely successful. Our job is to increase the goaltender’s skill and provide insight into multiple techniques during situational play. Repetition of skills puts a goaltender in position to have success and be confident in the net. Through video analysis and technical feedback, our coaches work with the athlete to improve their consistency. Hard work and dedication to being a student of the game are paramount to our coaches and athletes. Drills are continually progressing to provide the most current goalie techniques and a positive environment for learning.

“APX has been a huge reason that has led to me being able to play DI hockey. Working with Drew Fielding over the years at APX has helped improve my game in countless ways,” says Kam Hendrickson, who is currently competing at the University of Connecticut. “Being part of the APX family is something special, between the whole staff of coaches on and off ice, it’s truly unmatched by any other program.”
